The Living Dichotomy

Livin', chillin', shelling out words of wisdom for 5 cents a pop...

Or better yet, a smoke.

Quoted then misquoted,

A few translations lost at each turn.

Burning the night at both ends,

Deflecting trends, then creating new ones by mistake.

Taking and taken for granted by

everyone and everything ever placed on a pillar of importance.

Seeking chance for a tour guide takes you on a cruel and thrilling ride,

Especially when using frequent flyer miles.

Biding times like these, both now and before.

Poor and always pouring out blood, sweat, tears and rum.

Running in place, looking back with detachment

At the other side of the glass.

Past worries and fears bring new pain and shorter years.

Tearing down walls, and mending some fences,

Growing and trying to "live up to potential".

Too much for one, not enough for all.

Trying to pick up the pieces, no matter how far they fall.

The epitome of flying, or rather, falling with style.

Learning to be a man through it all, all the while.

Half blind, half psychic, half prophet, half sage,

Losing disciples, and gaining new ones with age.

Through the best and the worst, you're the best and the worst.

And only she and I know your magic and curse.

Your truth and your life, your myths and your strife.

You're better than you know, and worse than you dreamed,

And I know that none of this was ever in your scheme.

All I know is, I'm thankful for all, and the rest

Is up to the history books. For now it's a test.

Test of time, test of love, test of friendship and growth.

Staring at the darkness and swearing an oath.

My muse, my lover, my teacher, my friend,

Your have my gratitude from now 'til the end.
